Spooky Prospector
February 21st, 2010 by John WolfeIf you’ve learned anything about me over the last two years and nine months (give or take a few days), it’s that I love the odd, bizarre and macabre. That’s partially the case because those three adjectives do a good job of describing my mood and mentality from time to time.
However, just as 10 Non-Halloween Themed Halloween Items mentioned, it’s also because there are certain things completely unrelated to October 31st that still have the ability to put me in the Halloween spirit. Odd, bizarre and macabre will do the trick every time.
Speaking of which, I present today’s vid — “The Prospector.” While this animation could be loaded with symbolism, I won’t even pretend to know what it means. All I know for sure is it’s odd, bizarre and a little macabre.
If you have any ideas on the meaning, I’d love to hear your take.

I don’t even bother with meaning–I just totally get into that scene. That was very creepy and cool. I have a collection set of Brothers Quay–they are the masters of all time between unbelievably creepy worlds and stop motion and music. Oh my gosh–I played their films on my shed during my Halloween party with the baby dolls getting the movie played against them showing up with the baby dolls in the movie that are being disassembled and it just horrified the guests! Their collections DVD is a must-have!

I don’t know what the message is but the movie reminds me of that North to Alaska song. Except I don’t think the song had a zombie prospector who spit gold and could remove his head.
I liked it. It was strange.

autumnforest,
I’ve watched the Brothers Quay on YT! There’s a lot of their stuff on there and it’s super odd and bizarre, too. I get a huge kick out of their creepy stop motion stuff. I bet that looked incredible, having their movies play over (and on) your own dolls!
frightnight,
I think you’re right. If memory serves, I don’t believe there is a walking, undead prospector in that song.
