Strange Halloween

December 8th, 2008 by John Wolfe

“People are strange, when you’re a stranger, faces look ugly when you’re alone”… sorry; I’m still shaking off the effects of last night’s PBS tribute to The Doors. :) Speaking of strange – enter Head Injury Theater; where artist, Jared Von Hindman, has brought together an eclectically, spooky-cool collection of Halloween costume artwork and horror movie reviews. I’m not sure of the medium in this selected image, but it looks to be a watercolor wash with pen and ink – very Tim Burtonesque!

Check out Jared’s Strange Halloween section for more of his Halloween themed artwork.

Ok now that’s eerie, last Friday I missed hearing my Door’s CD and the one song I always start it off with is, “People are Strange”. Sort of my motto song these days. Loved it so much that when I got home, pulled up youtube (of course) and watched the video real fast. Synchronicity – this is at such an all time high right now – truly amazing! Again, nice art work found John and nuts, I missed a Doors special!!

I didn’t know you were a Doors fan, otherwise I would have told you about the PBS special on Sunday. It was live footage from a European tour with Jefferson Airplane (one of my favorite groups).

Morrison was in fine form as usual! He’s absolutely phenomenal, but his onstage persona always has a way of cracking me up a little. Actually, I don’t think he was that much different offstage. One of my favorite things about him was the fact he was unflappable. He didn’t care what anybody thought of him and he absolutely marched to the beat of his own drum.

Glad you liked Jared’s work in this post. He has a unique style that I really enjoy.

Soooo, it seems no matter how well you know a friend, there is ALWAYS something new you learn about them every day, or every week ;-) I became a huge Doors fan in 1990 when I worked for the SuperStore for 3 years. I was dating an Irish guy at the time who was obsessed with the Doors and when the movie came out with Val Kilmer, he was dying to go see it. Sadly, before we ever arrived to the movie, he became drunk off of Irish Whisky and I had to pull him away from starting a fight with a group of men AND get him to my little Toyota Tercel at the time. We later rented it on VHS, yes, VHS and it was nice to get a look into Jim just a bit.

Jim, like you John, was a man before his time. One of the same reasons you admire him applies for me as well, he didn’t care what anyone said of him and he sure didn’t care what the cops had to say. Just look at what is done on stage now at concerts…..my God. Jim’s movements were nothing compared to today’s bands. I enjoy how he really gets into his music, you can see it in his face…..it’s like he’s astral travling while on stage singing. Having a love relationship with him must have been wild! I wish I knew about the special…..nuts, oh well.

I ended up watching a 2 hour documentary on PBS of the Dahli Lama, which was highly interesting. Then I saw a GREAT movie from the Hallmark Hall of Fame, a true story about a man with tourette syndrome. It just broke my heart how humans were quick to judge him but it warmed my heart that he found true love from someone who truly understood him, just like his mom. The actor Jimmy Wolk did an incredible job and it left me thinking for hours last night after it ended.

Sorry, didn’t mean to get so far of track, again….LoL ;-)

Yeah, a friend of mine was after me time and again to rent The Doors movie. I never did, so finally he loaned me his. Two days later he left town and never came back, so I ended up with my own copy.

Thanks for the “man before my time” thing. ;)

Your PBS had the Dali Lama on Sunday night? I didn’t catch that one. The Doors special was on late – around 11:00 PM. The Hallmark Hall of Fame movie sounds really good!
