The Cat With Hands

December 18th, 2010 by John Wolfe

You probably know my tastes pretty well by now, I like anything odd and creepy as long as it’s not gory or violent. The Cat With Hands definitely fits that description and even though there is some violence in the vid (most of it’s insinuated and not shown in great detail), the oddness factor of the film is what won me over when it came to including it as an entry. It’s just so freakin’ odd — in a good way! :)

This next vid was the pilot or test version prior to Robert Morgan and his team creating the finished piece:

Well knowing how well you know me, I’m certain you know which direction I’m going to take my comment right now :-) I bet your going to sleep just a big uneasy tonight with your room open to your cats roaming around. I can think of “one” cat in particular that would play this role out perfectly and you know who I’m talking about ;-) As stated, you would be screwed if your cats had hands period, let alone in taking over your body. LoL with your ailments though they would probably jump right back out of your body and into their old cat vehicle. I say that kindly of course my friend, you get where I’m going.

I’ve got to say that both videos were most unique on their own. The first one absolutely (there I go again…lol) is what I would expect of a horror film these days. The visuals were most disturbing in some case but nonetheless was entertaining in creating that spooky air about me. The second one was more calm in some ways yet still maintaining that disturbing horror factor. Clips/videos/films like that allow the imagination of the person to take it to a whole other level. I’m sure that’s partly to blame as to why I love very old films that most cannot tolerate to watch now a days. I love it though. It’s more subtle with what’s being said or hinted onto, almost a type of foreplay for the mind in some way and not so intrusive in your face like most films/videos/movies are these days.

Sorry didn’t mean to get on my old fashioned soap box there but I do treasure the gem of videos that you discover my friend. You even have the ability of focusing in and detailing out the videos that are most haunting and yet mind riveting. Very artful in many areas. Everything you do, find, touch and have seems to turn to gold my dear. You are a man, no a spirit, of many talents, gifts and abilities. We are all most fortunate to have you here with us now sharing this moment in time. There will never be another time like it quite again. Thank you and awesome find sweetie ;-)

that was the creepiest thing I`ve ever saw. And I`m suprised that this hasen`t become a folk tale somewhere. Great find John. Thanks again for sharing.

Nice find John. Tat one definately into the category of one of the more twisted videos Ive seen. I often wonder just how it is that you find all of this good stuff before I do. I suppose I’ve just got to work harder at it. Thanks for sharing.

    Yeah odd definitely describes it.

    Goldie,

No doubt I’d be doing just that — sleeping uneasy with cats around, if it weren’t for the fact I already went through a lot of that when I was younger. :) Do you remember the movie in the ’80s (I think it might have been by Stephen King) where the cat was stealing people’s breath while they slept? Someone would always be fast asleep in their bed, when the cat would come in and suck this smoky looking material out of the person’s lips and into its own nose/mouth.

Anyway, I was staying with my grandparents at the time I saw the film and my grandma had two indoor cats, both of them liked to sleep on your pillows. One of the cats was also known to stare at you while you slept. Often I’d wake up to find her a few inches from my face just looking at me in the middle of the night. Naturally, all I could think of in my ten-year-old mind was the cat from the movie. So, I pretty much went through the “cats freak me out in the middle of the night” phase already… lol.

But I have to agree, as cranky as one of my cats can be, he’d no doubt love to use a pair of hands on me when the mood struck him just right! And if he did have the ability to do the whole taking over my body thing, you’re probably right — he’d say to heck with this noise once he found out about all the funky issues that are going on with my body! As Garth Brooks said, “I’m much too young to feel this damn old.”

I know what you mean about the older films letting the viewer fill in the blanks. Though most of what I post is new, the elements I look for pertain to setting a mood, teasing and taunting through their creepiness without being in your face. Thanks for watching and for your kind words, Goldie.

    ssflipo13,

You’re so right, it does have all the elements to become a folktale or urban legend type story. Though I don’t know the background on the film, I’m kinda guessing the idea may have been built entirely around the old saying, ‘cat got your tongue?’ which, in and of itself, has a very folksy feel to it. Did you share this one with your wife?

    Donna,

That seems to be a common sentiment among viewers of Robert Morgan’s work. If you check out many of his other vids, over on YT, you’ll find that’s often the response, but I think he likes bringing that out in his viewers. :)

    SKAustin,

Thanks, glad you enjoyed it. Most of the stuff I post comes from lots and lots of digging around. I think I’m probably pretty unconventional in the way I use every part of You Tube, especially the searches I perform. If they ever analyze the search data and happen to come upon a string I’ve typed in, I bet they scratch their heads and think, “damn those are some crazy search terms!”

    Andrea,

Great to hear from you. Thanks for checking out the video and commenting.

I’m going to venture a guess about the cat sucking the breath or life out of people…. bear with me, everybody….
There was a wive’s tale that I heard when I was pregnant with Kieran… “Don’t let cats have access to a baby’s crib because cats can be attracted to the smell of milk on the baby’s breath. Cats can and will jump into a sleeping baby’s crib and put their mouth on the baby’s and then suffocate them.” So from that to a cat sucking the soul or breath from someone- not a far jump. And BTW- what a crummy thing to tell a brand new, first time Mom who had cats that she loved and a baby on the way that she loves more!… but that may be a soapbox for me for another day.. ;)

    ssflipo13,

I’m not sure if your wife works at the hospital or was visiting someone, but if she was there for a health concern, then I hope she’s feeling better.

    Camile,

So great to hear from you! Ooh, that’s good thinking — I forgot all about that little legend. I bet it played a big part in inspiring The Cat With Hands. And someone actually told you that one when you were a brand new mom? Wow, how very open mouth and insert foot of them!

  10. Camile Says:

lol!! Oh, you have no idea the incredible things people will say to a 1st time pregnant woman, especially one who has waited until later in life to have a child! The horror stories, the warnings, the advice- it was mind boggling and was enough to make a full length feature film for sure and twice as scary as anything in the theaters! LOL!! Lucky for me, my brain was totally awash in pregnant ‘happy hormones’ so the things that people said just rolled off me and barely registered. Nature has a way of being very kind to us when we need it most. :D

  11. John Says:

    Camile,

Those are two of the many things I greatly admire about you, Camile — your positive attitude and strong spirit! Good for you to let other people’s “warnings” roll right off of you. While I know most people have good intentions when providing advice, so much of the fear-based stuff we hear is uncalled for and unfounded.

And you’re so right about Nature. I’ve found myself becoming a “student” more and more of Nature and the wisdom it provides at all times.
