The Haunted Coach
December 20th, 2009 by John WolfeNowadays, most people tend to associate ghost stories with October and Halloween, however, historically speaking, it used to be quite common to also tell tales of ghosts and spirits during winter and the yuletide celebration as well. With that in mind, I found this great vid, “The Phantom Coach: A ghost story for Christmas,” on You Tube. Yt user, bonbichie, along with a very creative team, used puppet silhouettes to bring the tale of a lost man’s encounter with a haunted coach to life.
Projects such as this are right up my alley because they operate on a premise that’s near and dear to my heart: set a mood by using dark, eerie atmosphere and ambiance, instead of employing gratuitous violence or gore.

Wow! That was really beautiful and enchanting. You’re right–I’m the same way about stuff. It’s all about mood and atmosphere. I can steep myself in it. My dream would be to live in a home that’s like a movie set, each room a different dark theme.

Though I am most appreciative of this video and the story telling, JOHN, your voice would have been absolutely PERFECT for acting out this video and doing the voice over. Actually, this story would have been 10X scarier if they used YOUR voice for the story telling. Oh well, I can dream. I hope it’s something that you can entertain some point in the future dear friend. This was/is a very unique video to find on youtube. Job well done!

autumnforest,
After posting this entry, I looked up the author. She lived in Victorian times, which didn’t come as too much of a surprise to me. Most authors in the 1800′s were geniuses when it came to writing suspenseful scenes and setting a mood. Of course, the puppeteers were phenomenal in their modern interpretation as well. Glad you liked it and can relate to my love affair with atmosphere.
Goldie,
Thanks! I told you someone once accused me of having the voice of an axe murderer! LOL. I have no idea what an axe murderer sounds like, but apparently they thought that they knew.
I would absolutely love to do voice overs for certain Halloween, paranormal and spooky projects.
