The Search for EVPs: Part 1
April 26th, 2009 by John Wolfe
I just posted the recent EVP (spirit voices captured on tape) session results on You Tube that my mom and I conducted at a local cemetery. While the quality of the disembodied voices weren’t what’s considered class “A” EVPs, I was pretty impressed by the captures. The original recording ran one hour and forty minutes. I spent roughly twenty hours scrutinizing the audio, whittling it down, eliminating what could be explained and creating the video.
There still may be some explanation for portions of the findings, however, after a lot of work, I’m very confident the majority of voices captured represent a paranormal phenomenon we know very little about and it’s my intention to continue exploring it. I hope you enjoy the video. If you are having problems with the You Tube player, you can also watch this installment in your media player by following the Search for Spirit Voices: Part 1 link.

Holy Moly, this is my first time actually using my Bose headphones to listen to this recent upload and I just about dropped my hot morning coffee!!! I had no idea your intro music had those deep bass like undertones………and that heartbeat sound is really creepy!! Nice intro John. Now, as you can imagine, since I’m wearing my Bose, WOWEY WOW does the clarity come through with what’s being said. This is incredible, the sound is incredible. Plus you know hun, after hearing it through my headphones just now, clip 10 is so clear in what’s being said, it almost sounds to be coming from a very close human…..or a very close spirit. It’s as though he/she was right on your recorder, similar to the orbs right in front of my face. Wow……stunning, if only our eyes were adapt to seeing them! This turned out really great John, I can’t wait for more.

Hey John, real fast, thanks to your horrible influence
I’ve been studying evp recordings all morning long as well as going back over what I had taped. Wow, that “yes, I am” remark is just amazing and I hate to say it but I’ve got to get a different recorder so I can transfer the sound bytes to my pc and share them with a friend
Anyhow, I came upon a youtube user who has quite the collection of evp recordings. I don’t want to cross any lines on your website by posting someone elses user name or video link so if your interested, when you have time that is, just buzz me and I’ll be happy to give you the guys information so you can take a look yourself.
OH, also, I’ve some some remarkable results from my pendulum testing of the “place” I work. You won’t believe what happened in the girls room upon testing….it’s hard to keep it to myself right now
I had good results in my home as well and there does appear to be very certain places of hot energy activity or some type of spiritual vibration. My “feelings” were right about the girl’s room though…..something is “up” with that spot of the house and especially over B’s crib. Moreover, the testing was strong in my bedroom but, get this, not on or near my bed but ONLY at the foot of my bed….really intense testing results there. I swear, I think I’m building up the courage to evp my room during the day because clearly, as defined now, “someone” is with me.
Eeeeeeeeeeee, what fun
Can’t wait for our updates and thank you for all of your great advice John, you’ve been a big help to me and I might add immense inspiration
All my best, Happy EVPing, Goldie

Glad you enjoyed it. I bet it is very clear using those great headphones. I still haven’t had an opportunity to go back and listen to clip #10 again, but when I do I’ll be listening for the phrase you mentioned. To me, it definitely sounds like the same voice signature as clip #9.
I just finished listening to half of the new recordings from yesterday, so far there appear to be at least two which are even more clear than the majority obtained during the first recording. From now on, I’m probably only going to post the most clear findings. Many in my first video were obviously there, but weren’t clear enough, however, I was just so jazzed because they were there!
Glad to hear you had some great results with the pendulum. Did you try recording during your pendulum session? I’m looking forward to hearing about your findings from conducting EVP sessions at your place.
If you decide to buy a new recorder, let me know if you’re interested in picking up an Olympus and I’ll give you the model number from mine.

Fascinating, I’ve got to grab my recorder and traipse to the old graveyard down the street from me. Did you do the recording during the day or night?
I have heard of a technique of asking the spirits questions and waiting a short time to allow them to answer, kind of like an interview to see who is around. Looking forward to hearing more unearthly voices!

LoL, oh no, I said “maybe” building up the courage to tape at my place. After the sounds and motions I felt last night in my bedroom, though they were the same as in the girls room, there’s just no way I can actually tape my bedroom. Chances are it’s the same gentle spirit that seems attached to me somehow (lol, as I typed that a knock above my head just happened, amazing!) but if anything other than her voice appeared and started cursing at me…..I would have a hard time sleeping ever again. I’m going to take your approach on this John, when it comes to taping at home
However, taping while I’m pendulum testing is a wonderful idea!!!! I’ll have to wait till Thursday when “T” is in daycare as it is impossible to tape while she’s there. Plus I forgot to tell you last night, I LOST ALL of my evp recordings dude!!!! I have NO idea what happened, none! I was listening to them in the morning, thinking of how to transfer the sounds and moments later when I went back to hear the “yes, I am” again, every single last track was GONE. Here’s the thing, nobody else touched and I’m very careful to always set the HOLD button so nothing happens to the buttons if pushed. In fact, when I picked it up to begin listening, the HOLD button was indeed ON………..so all of my great findings are gone. I couldn’t believe it. I wonder how that happened? I wonder if it was something outside of me doing it? It’s really the strangest thing and all I could do, of course, was go “oh well…it wasn’t meant to be” and leave it at that. I was sooooooooo disappointed though, you have no idea! Now it’s definate John, I’ve got to get a new recorder if I want to continue this new found interest of mine, thanks to YOU my dear friend. Just wanted to share that with you…..forgot to mention it last night.
Have a great evp day, Goldie

Mr. Macabre,
I only record during the day as they close the cemetery at night and I want to be as respectful and ethical as possible in this exploration. I’ve found isolated cemeteries are the best because they have almost no noise contamination from passersby. We visited two more locations on Monday and the results have been extremely amazing (especially since we’re still getting the hang of doing this). This past Monday’s EVPs are clearer and more pronounced than last weeks, not to mention some interesting “coincidences” have also occurred.
So far, we’ve been doing a mixture of asking short questions followed by pauses, long questions followed by pauses and just reading epitaphs, dates and names. Responses have been picked up during a variety of these techniques – so, you may want to mix it up a little.
Goldie,
I commend you (and anyone else) for exploring this phenomenon. If we’re ever going to find out exactly what resides beyond the veil of “death” (while we are still physically alive), then it’s important to set aside our fears and paranoia, not to mention dogmatic, socially influenced beliefs and urban legends about ghosts and spirits. With that being said, taping in the home can be a tricky thing, since it is where we need to be comfortable while resting and relaxing. I don’t blame you for wanting to record outside your home only. Though I’m highly curious about the paranormal, I prefer to keep my home separate from my exploration.
Once again, I’m sorry to hear about your recorder.
