Thank you, Mike, for your comment and for sharing that great saying. Similarly, I try and live by the saying, "An unexamined life isn't worth living." I guess I've taken that quite literally, as I spend most of my time examining and questioning life and consciousness and what's next. Many people feel examination leads to wasting one's life or can cause suffering, but as I'm examining I'm never more in the moment of enjoying my existence.

Your comments are always welcome and appreciated. If you haven't done so yet, you might be interested in checking out our third video: Old Ghost Town Voices. In the last three weeks, since posting the third installment, we've been hard at work collecting more evidence and honing our skills at listening for EVPs. I've found it's a lot like learning a brand new language.

Hi John and others, sorry for posting on an old topic but I have been away for some time and could not get around to posting a reply.

John, in response to your second reply to my posting. I have a very open mind. I believe there are "things" that truly do go bump in the night and other such phenomenon. In my "world" if you will, I believe that to not believe there are other forces there -be them what they may- hinders mans progression into discovery. I'm a firm believe in a saying I acquired somewhere in my life, from where I do not recall, that goes "If you are capable of thinking about it, that thought along must indicate the possibility of its existence, somewhere, somewhen". I will always live my life with that little pearl of wisdom lingering about my consciousness.

So basically when it comes to things of this nature I have always respected the peoples work, the people them selves for what they do, and the possibilities they bring to light in this field and fields like this. The more humanity becomes conscious about this field the more discoveries about it will be made.

Keep up the good work!

Goldie,

It's funny you mention that older entry. I've been thinking about my older articles quite a bit lately and am curious if they will stand up to the evidence we are uncovering. Of course, my ideas in those posts were based on theory and my personal feelings about consciousness - again, one of the reasons I thought it was time to start moving away from theory and into research and the collection of evidence. Either way, I'm glad the post you read has held up. :) I may one day be eating some of my earlier words depending on what we uncover!

Regarding your recordings, I know fully what you mean about the taps and clicks, even when the recorder is not being held or touched. As you know, we worked with the recorders again yesterday and the audio has many of the familiar clicks and taps, especially before and/or after an EVP comes through. I ended up receiving a five word sentence from a female voice. That's the longest string of communication to date. Hopefully, I'll have the new video up tonight from last week's trip.

Hey John, I was browing through your website today while B is napping and came upon an entry of Q & A called: Do Ghosts Haunt Us While We Sleep? Dated: June 27th, 2008

I must say, as you already know, this hit close to home for me on several levels, all of which I won't bore your readers with. However, I found it interesting, given our current topic of conversation lately, that what you posted, in terms of your opinions, in that entry completely coincided with what we've been wrapping our brains around lately. I love how, in this moment in time, what is normally a casual thought fleeting for the moment, tends to come around again and make itself known. Much of what you typed about in that entry is what we've been pondering over outloud. Needless to say, it was a really good entry to find today and your thorough and well thought out response was remarkable.

Speaking of which, I had one wicked dark dream last night that indeed felt very real. I could even smell the air, feel my skin and what was happening to it, what was falling down around me.....truly a very strange dream that I had to force myself awake after a short time. Long story, won't go there but GREAT posting back in June John, excellent stuff as always dear friend.

John, I fully agree with your comment back to Mike. He approached his comments to you in a very mature and respectable manner which is greatly appreciated by all so I commend him for doing so. It makes a big difference to say the least.

Oddly enough, what Mike is speaking of is very similar to my comment to you on the "paranormal pages" entry. Upon listening to just the audio and no visual, some of what was recorded was very hard to decern. Had you not written out what you believe you heard, we probably would have never picked up on it, so Mike does make a valid point and clearly you already understand that.

As you know with my own personal experiences with EVP recording, much of what is taped IS difficult to understand for a number of reasons, but every once in a while some words or phrases come through crystal clear and there is no doubt in what is being said. Clearly there are "spirits" wondering our earth (for whatever reason) that can somehow bend the sound enough around them to create the few words they do. Having said that, it's quite remarkable when you take it all in and sit back to think about all. I do believe you are just as careful about your recordings as I am primarily for our own sake. Upon going back and listening to my findings, I do NOT want any external sounds, more than what's already there. The best way to get around that is to take the needed percautions while recording like you and I know for a fact we're doing.

I'm looking forward to your next posting with this recent trip to your new location. My recordings are littered with sounds, thumps, clicks, claps, footsteps, you name it, all the while my recorder lay motionless way up high on the mantle. It's really strange to play it back, knowing how quiet it was in the house during the recording, and to hear so much movement from "some place else." Wow.....ya know ;-)

Mike,

I appreciate the respectful way in which you addressed the recordings. I don't mind it at all if someone is unsure or doubting some of the evidence as long as they present their side in a respectful manner. So, thank you for that. In looking at it from your perspective, I totally understand where you're coming from. It's hard to be thrown into the mix (so to speak) on these recordings and be able to hear exactly what we found. It's one thing to have been there and then play back the audio and know the surrounding environment and to hear everything in its order of occurrence - it's another to be looking in from an outside perspective and only hear the captures.

I agree with you about already training my ears to the subtle nuances of these sounds. I've always been accused of having hearing that's way too strong for my own good anyway. ;) It used to get me in trouble when I was a kid!

I truly don't want anyone to strictly take my word for it. I believe everyone should give this a try for a few times and I think they would be amazed at what they uncover. It's so different when you are doing the recordings. I, too, was always unsure of EVPs when hearing the findings of others (even though they fascinated me). But after conducting my own experiments, I'm absolutely convinced there is a legitimate phenomena at work.

I was able to implement more of your suggestions during our recent session. While the quality of some responses weren't quite as good as previous sessions (we were in a new location), they were still coming through, with no wind and no movement. I kept still and kept the recorder on the ground (on a little stand), several inches away from me. My mom picked up a nice EVP and I have some phantom sounds I'll be presenting in the next video.

Hey again. My problem is that I only hear (most of the time) the suspected phrases if I am watching the phrases emphasized on the video. If I do not watch the video and just listen, most of what I hear is garbled nonsense. Some though, are very clear. The phrases you mention in your reply are ones that sounded very clear to me. However, most everything else did not sound like anything, really. Even turning the volume up to a level where I could hear without my surrounding house/computer noise didn't produce any audible phrases, to me. But I also do not spend much time listening to these so i really can not say there is nothing there, perhaps I just can't hear it because I have not trained my ears to hear subtle sounds as you have. Keep on investigating though, some-when, somewhere there will be a breakthrough in this and the truth will be there!

Goldie,

Thanks, glad you enjoyed the video! You're right, the sheer fact we did experience some sort of "time loss" with our recorders made the "Loss of time" voice that much more intense. I never did figure out how I started recording ahead of her, then she bypassed me at one point and I again regained the lead later on. The recorders were never stopped and each one only had one file in that particular folder...weird. I'm definitely interested in getting an EMF reading with the KII meter during future visits. It'll be great to see if spikes in the KII will coincide with any voice phenomena.

The "He's here" was a little weird to hear at first, of course, I can't prove they were talking about me. Hopefully that's at least a sign they are willing to continue communication.

I enjoyed hearing an even more in depth explanation of your photos last night as well! Are you going to pick up that new recorder soon? Thanks again for the awesome feedback.

Mike,

Thanks for your tips and input. I'm absolutely open to learning techniques that will help enhance our experience and remove any false positives. I want these recordings to present only legitimate captures. While you're right about there being movement in some of the captures, in several others the recorder was stationary and even on the ground. Some of the most obvious captures such as "No, it's not" & "Who's there?" were picked up while no movement was occurring - albeit, still with the wind whipping around.

For me, many of the words are crystal clear and indicate intentional pronunciation ("___ Baca" comes to mind) and proper sentence structure - especially if you listen closely to how the voice raises her words in the form of a question in the "Who's there?" capture. That's definitely not caused by wind or movement.

Honestly, I appreciate your feedback and will definitely incorporate your suggestions. The location we will be visiting this week will lend itself well to incorporating wind blocks and even more stationary sessions. Thanks for stopping by.

Honestly, I appreciate your feedback and will definitely incorporate your suggestions. The location we will be visiting this week will lend itself well to incorporating wind blocks and even more stationary sessions. Thanks for stopping by.

Shouldn't be walking or moving around AT ALL while doing these because most of what is heard (to me) is movement blending in with conversation. So it is quite possible that some or all of these sounds are just products of too much ambient noise from moving around. Recorders shouldn't be held at all, they should be reseted on the ground or on top of something solid. There should be no movement from the people taking the recordings.
It will help with sound recognition tremendously by eliminating the most prevalent means of sound contamination, movement, heart-beat, rustling of recorder in hands, etc etc. Also, a wind shield of some sort should be placed around the recorder to eliminate possible contamination of samples by wind noise.
I'm not a skeptic, but if I were doing these I'd do what ever I could to stop pollutants of my own sounds, and other natural sounds of the environment, with in reason of course.
