The Vampire Sleeps

November 6th, 2009 by John Wolfe

During Halloween week, XM Halloween Radio played “The Vampire Sleeps” multiple times. Out of all their programming, it was one of the best for setting the Halloween mood. This Boris Karloff gem was a real treat while working on my groundbreakers.

So, are you one of the frightened? :D

Yaaaaaa, it feels like Halloween again!!! That’s the greatest thing about SeasonofShadows, EVERYDAY is Halloween.

Thank you for sharing this. Sadly, I didn’t get to hear any of the stories on XM Halloween night so I’m most appreciative to you for pulling this out of your bag of ghoulish goodies. I adore the more old time feel of Dracula stories and not this new trend with shows like Twilight , although I can see how it would appeal to the younger generation. I prefer the more old fashioned stories and movies of Vampires and the black and white films are the best! This Halloween was my first time seeing “Dracula” made back in 1979 and hands down, so far, that is my all time favorite movie. Everything felt so real in that film, I thought I had turned into a bat and was actually living out the experience….LoL!

Thanks, guys. Glad you enjoyed it.

    Goldie,

I agree with you about the older, more retro and vintage portrayals of vampires. That’s what appealed to me about this story. Of course, having Boris Karloff narrate was an added bonus. Even “The Grinch” sounds creepy with Karloff, despite its Christmas theme. :)
