There’s No Such Thing
September 3rd, 2010 by John WolfeIf you enjoyed Sunday’s Spooky Bedfellow post, then “There’s No Such Thing” oughta be right up your alley.

I can so relate to this because I used to have childhood nightmares that a coffin was stored beneath my bed. In the dreams, a corpse would reach out from under the lid in an attempt to grab me.
I’m still trying to figure out who had the more sinister role in the short, the mother or the creepy visitor. All I know is after watching this I’m glad I sleep on a mattress thrown on the floor in the summertime — i.e, there’s no clearance underneath for the boogieman to hang out.

Wow! That was awesomely scary and good!

Jeez, what a Mom! You are a wise man John having your mattress on the floor so the boogie man can’t hide underneath. I am not a fan of my closet door being open while trying to sleep. If there is something in there, I don’t want to hear or see it…..yikes!
September 3rd, 2010 at 11:13 pm
WOW. The “monster” under the bed freaked me out. To me, there’s nothing scarier than an absent face and bright white eyes peering out from that lack of detail. I love how simple it is and yet, it still evokes emotions. I felt angry that the mother wouldn’t attack that thing. I have an adorable niece and I know for a fact, I would slay that thing… after I got done shitting my pants, of course. Haha. This one also captured one of my fears of looking towards something and a face of any type being RIGHT THERE. That is a fear I’ll never get rid of probably.
Also, please check out my updated site: http://drnecropolis.blogspot.com. It’s the Necropolis site, but I had to tear it down because of spammers, but now it’s got a completely new layout. Simple but eerie, I think. Let me know what you think.

I liked that. It wasn’t as good as bedfellows, but it was creepy enough. Fall like weather tonight has put me in the spirit. It is cool enough for a jacket and the local stores have most of their Halloween out. I am officially stoked for the season!

The Mother is!
Shame……….shame, I guess she wanted to sacrifice her daughter or something to just leave her there on the bed for the monster to eat.
My brother and I had the same phobia about our beds to. What was funny though is that my brother had that fear for our bunk bed and HE slept on top, not me, I was the bottom bunk. Funny thing was he would eventually end up sleeping on the floor next to my bed because he said he felt safer next to me than up there all by himself on the top bunk. LoL…..second thought, maybe his monster had large wings so it could fly out of thin air and scoop him up for the top bunk. Who knows. This went on for at least a couple of years.
Then my lovely grandpa made us both our own waterbeds, in which case the bottom of the frame went down to the floor and left NO room for crawling under. After that, bro never had a problem again. Currently, I do have issues from time to time that if I have any part of my body limbs hanging off the mattress while I sleep, then some massive blade will come down out of the ceiling and trim the bed-sides….thus cutting off a body part. Odd huh……….here we are adults and yet still, from time to time, have these odd little phobia’s regarding our sleep.
Oh I just wanted to give a shout out and say “Hi” to Camile, Stephen and Ethan. 3 amazing people I’ve had the pleasure to chat with that are just as special in their own ways as you are my dear. SeasonofShadows has a very loving community of regular viewers and I wanted to let them all know how much I appreciate who they are and for the kind hearts they continue to share with me, as you do of course my dear. Thank you John and your prop is looking fantastic Sweetie!!!

autumnforest,
Glad you liked it. I loved this one too, cause I’ve always been a fan of anything that has a twist to it. I totally didn’t see that ending coming.
Ghoul Friday,
I think you’re right. With a mother like that, it wouldn’t surprise me if the thing under the bed was actually the father!
ssflipo13,
I was somewhat concerned at first myself, but I figure it’s not as bad as if I were to start sleeping upside down, hanging from the ceiling.
If that happens, then I may begin to freak out a little. Glad you liked the vid.
Julie,
Thanks! Initially I put it on the floor in the room where I have a window unit air conditioner, cause that’s the coolest room in the house. But now, after watching There’s No Such Thing, I figure the mattress being on the floor is serving an even greater purpose. I hear you about closets… they’re hella spooky in the middle of the night.
It’s ironic considering I’ve been on a lot of “ghost hunts” and experienced weird stuff and I know you have too, yet, closets and the under side of beds can still freak us out.
Doug,
I agree. These Daywalt Horror guys come up with some very interesting faces on the monsters in their vids. Thanks for sharing about your niece. It reminded me of my uncle. But in his case he wouldn’t have been trying to save me; instead, he would have been the “monster” under my bed or in my closet. In fact, on more than one occasion he was! He loved scaring me when I was very young and I know he did the same with his son. Though it would shake me up, I always enjoyed his antics. His practical jokes probably helped propel my love affair with scary stuff even more so during my youth.
I’ll be sure to swing by your new site. Thanks for telling me about the change and also for the laugh about what would have occurred with your pants prior to you swinging into action to save your niece!
Ethan,
That’s great news! I’m happy to hear your weather is finally cooling down. That will be so good for giving you more opportunities to work on your prop. We’ve been in the 80s now, which has been nicer — the garden doesn’t take as much water because of it. So far, I haven’t seen a single Halloween decoration in any of our stores. But I haven’t been to Spirit or Michael’s yet. Once I do go, I know they’ll accommodate me.
Goldie,
As a kid, bunk beds always seemed to be cozier and safer than sleeping in a single bed to me. But since I didn’t have any siblings, I never actually experienced sleeping like that. It was always just an assumption I made. I still crack up about the story you told where you and your brother slept on the floor of your parents’ room (unbeknownst to your parents), only to be stepped on by your mom in the middle of the night, and, of course, her priceless reaction… LOL!
What a fantastic gift from your grandpa! And yeah, water beds were great that way with the frame meeting the floor, so there was no clearance whatsoever. I never really thought about a blade coming out of the ceiling… are you sure you don’t watch those SAW movies?
Thanks for giving some shout outs. I couldn’t agree more about what a great group of people there are who visit and comment on a regular basis! I’m going to be doing a shout out entry in October showing my appreciation back to all of you guys.
Thanks for the kind words about the prop… speaking of which, I’m heading out to work on him now.

Thanks Goldie, you re the sweetest.
John, You and I would have been inseparable if we lived in the same town. Everyone else would be freaked out by our love of the macabre, but we would have a blast. You should be getting a little something in the mail from me in about a week by the way. I think you will like it.
September 5th, 2010 at 8:55 am
After 1500 bedtime stories, 1500 ‘monster checks’, it looks like mommy finally found her ticket outta there.
September 5th, 2010 at 1:37 pm
Ethan,
No doubt we would have been called witches and demons and everything else if we had grown up hanging out with one another! It would have been totally worth getting called every name in the book, though, to have a great friend who was as much into Halloween and spooky stuff as I was. I don’t think anyone in my neighborhood ever understood why I’d wear my Halloween makeup and fake teeth (usually pretending to be a werewolf) in February. Sadly, I never had a Halloween friend growing up. But, I’m making up for it now with all of you guys!
I love surprises, Ethan! I’m looking forward to seeing what you’re sending.
Thank you so much in advance.
Dex1879,
LOL… that’s a good one. Talk about “Mommy Dearest” — that lady’s one mean momma!
September 5th, 2010 at 2:35 pm
Ethan, you are adorable, so kind and very sweet. You are so right about the 3 of us living in the same town or even on the same street. Wow, how kick ass would that be. For some heaven is in the sky above filled with gold and jewels, not sure why such things would matter being heaven and in spirit form, but for me heaven would be having phenomenal neighbors and dear good friends like you, Camile and John just doors away. We would all help to create the most creative spooky haunted Halloween block that there ever was. Actually I better stop sharing this…..brings a tear to my eye in how beautiful of an experience that would be. For me, it would be a pure slice of heaven right here on Mother Earth. Just like with John but uniquely different, your website and your stunning works of art is profound Ethan and it has this way of moving me at a very deep inner core level. Thank you for your sweetness and kindness back to me me dear one, it’s most appreciated I assure you
PS…what you sent John…..is it something he can share with us too? You have a wicked sense of all things spooky and Halloween……can John take it with him for “share day” for all of us hard core Halloween lovers. Hmmmm, can he, can he……pleaseeeeeeeeeee

Hi John, just thought I would drop in to say hi. My computer is still in a box and where I’m staying I can’t use it anyway. No cable, only aol dial up so I can’t do much whatsoever without it taking forever. They don’t even have DSL due to the outlying location being so far away from humanity – lol
I’m trying as hard as hell to get a job but no go thus far. You have no idea how many different ways I’ve attempted to get a job – they just aren’t out there – it’s either that, or my age. Something is really standing in the way.
Welp, I miss blogging but I have to stop thinking about it for now. It’s just too unproductive if I’m still sitting here jobless.
On another note, Jackie starts at the Uni of Chi on September 19th. I hope I have a job by then. Hopefully with college students going back to school, I might have more luck. Imagine that – no job and no Jackie – waa, waa, waa. That’ll suck.
Talk soon,
Eileen (aka: Atrueoriginall)
September 6th, 2010 at 8:03 am
John will tell you all about it when he gets it. I am not saying a word. (Just busting at the seams.)
September 6th, 2010 at 3:01 pm
atrueoriginall,
It’s so great to hear from you, Eileen! I’ve been thinking about you and was wondering how everything’s going with your move. I’ve been meaning to send you an e-mail to check on you guys. That’s terrific news about Jackie starting college, although I know that means an empty nest for you, I’m sure she’ll call and visit every chance she gets.
Hang in there on the job front — the right one’s going to come through for you! I’m pulling for you and sending positive vibes your way. Please keep in touch when you have internet access.
Thanks again for your message.
Ethan,
Now you’ve really got me scratching my head trying to figure it out! It’s like my childhood Christmases all over again, only there’s no parents’ closet to peek in, so I can find out what I’m getting ahead of time.
I can’t wait to see it!
September 6th, 2010 at 10:21 pm
We must all be on the same wavelength because I’ve often thought how cool it would be to have John for a neighbor to work and collaborate with and now that Kieran and I are getting to know Goldie she’d *have* to live nearby too! It would be the ultimate Halloween Town like Nightmare Before Christmas! Ah, to dream. At least we can all converge here and cheer each other on and for that I say a big hearty thanks to John! You have created such a sense of community here that we can actually envision being neighbors! How many sites can boast that?!? Not many that I can think of! So thank you, John and Goldie and everyone that makes this place so wonderful!
September 6th, 2010 at 11:41 pm
I thank my lucky stars every day for having such kind visitors, Camile! All of you guys who visit and comment on a consistent basis inspire me to continue building on Season of Shadows, hopefully making it better and always looking for ways to provide service and giving back as much as I can. I’m so thrilled it’s feeling like a strong sense of community here, as that’s a big part of what I’ve been hoping to see happen at the site. I certainly haven’t created this community by myself — all of you guys have contributed to it just as much as me! That’s why I sincerely mean it when I say SOS belongs to everyone here who cares about it and contributes to it. Speaking of community, Goldie and I have something in the works for Season of Shadows this winter that I’m really excited about! It should help to expand and hopefully enhance the feeling of community even more at the site.
Thank you so much, Camile.
September 7th, 2010 at 6:13 pm
Camile sweetie, you are so right. Ethan planted such an idea, a delightful fantasy set forth with the idea of all of us living on the same street. It actually brought a tear to my eye desiring such a way of life and truly having the most remarkable neighbors anyone could ever ask for. I want John on one side of me, you and Kieran on the other and Ethan directly across from my house so he’s easy access for us all. I was just telling John yesterday how nice it feels to get to know some of his visitors a lot better. What I admire about all of us is that, yes we’re passionate for Halloween, we are all truly special, unique, kind and loving people on the INSIDE first. As a further extension in that is in what we create and inspire for others. Not JUST folks who love Halloween but truly the best group of people I would want to surround myself with. All of John’s regulars are awesome folks but you Camile + Kieran, Ethan and Stephen have a special place in my heart.
You speak from your heart Camile and it shows AND we all can feel in deeply. Thank you so much for your kind words about me, about John and especially about SeasonofShadows. When I first met John, SeasonofShadows was a tad bit different than what it’s become today. John’s spiritual writings/blogs just blew me right off of the face of this planet. They were, and are, so profound and 3 or so years ago, all of his writings were here on SoS until he created a second website for such writings. Thus the birth of WindoftheSoul was born. I don’t admit this to many but I even made a book out of his spiritual blogs
What can I say, when I find something GREAT, I cherish it for all it’s worth. SeasonofShadows means everything to John and I but it’s not just the website, as you’ve already noticed. What matters to him more so, and to me, is that our SoS friends who visit here feel like they’re home and always thoroughly enjoy their visit here.
John is absolutely right in what he shared above. We do have some exciting changes for SeasonofShadows come winter time. I’m so anxious for the day when we can reveal to everyone what it is and I guarantee you Camile, it goes hand in hand with the feeling of community your feeling so strongly now. Just you wait honey
Also I just wanted to tell you how much I deeply appreciate all of the kindness you have shown me and our continued communication back and forth. I hope it never ends. Please give Kieran a hug and kiss and tell him I said Hi. Have a beautiful day~*~

Oh. My. Gosh.
I’ve never been afraid of anything being under my bed before.
Til now.
September 13th, 2010 at 2:05 pm
It made you fearful of something beneath the bed and I think it made me fearful of the person peeking under it.
