Those Masochistic Addamses
August 1st, 2011 by John WolfeI posted Tom Lehrer’s Masochism Tango vid a couple of years back now (Wow! Where does the time go?), mentioning I’d first heard his song during my Halloween ’06 prep in an Addams Family tribute video. Since it’s become tradition for me to watch The Addams Family movies during my Halloween countdown, in 2006, while digging around YT for vids of Charles Addams’ creepy, kooky creations, I found the mashup of Gomez, Morticia and Tom’s tune.
And while the vid in today’s entry isn’t the same one I found in ’06 (it was removed from YT), it’s pretty darn close.

It’s almost like Lehrer’s ditty was written specifically for these two characters. I’m still amazed that this song, combined with the Gomez and Morticia theme, hasn’t been used for a Tango on “Dancing With The Stars”… not like I watch that show with any regularity.

It’s funny you posted this. I’ve been debating what to be for Halloween this year and I’ve been thinking about being Morticia for the last few weeks. I think the masochism tango has just pushed my decision to a complete yes! Thank you for posting this video- it gives me lots of great ideas and images to work from!!! Now the question becomes- does Kieran go as Pugsly or Gomez? Personality-wise he’s absolutely Gomez! lol!

That’s was a really funny song. Makes great sense to mash it up with the Addams.

Mine, too! Although the quality isn’t all that great. I used the record mode on my phone to grab one of the songs while the Addams Family movie was playing on my TV.

OH YEAH! You can never go wrong with Morticia — such a classic. I’ve got to see some photos of you guys in costume. Please take lots of pics this Halloween. If Kieran goes as Gomez, that reminds me of the baby when he looked like Gomez (mustache included) and Wednesday’s “boyfriend” dressed as Gomez, both from the Addams Family Values film.

LOL! Yeah, Tom Lehrer’s truly a lyrical genius. If you haven’t watched the original vid of Tom singing the song, you gotta see it. He does a great job of acting it out and his expressions are priceless, too.
