Under the Weather

March 31st, 2011 by John Wolfe

I wonder where that saying, “Under the Weather” comes from and why it’s come to mean being sick or feeling poorly? After all, aren’t we all literally under the weather (as in what’s going on in the sky) at all times? And once we start getting better, why is it no one comes up to us and says, “Gee, it’s great to see you’re feeling above the weather again.”?

If my poor impression of Andy Rooney in the above paragraph didn’t give it away, I’ve been having a pretty rough 2011 so far health-wise. Thankfully nothing has been life-threatening. However, I have experienced a few things that scared the crap out of me even more than my recurring nightmare where it’s Halloween night; the trick-or-treaters are arriving; we have no candy to give out; and none of my props are finished. :|

Anyway, my health issues have required the majority of my attention lately. So, I’d like to apologize to everyone who’s been so great about supporting SoS and checking in for updates on a regular basis, but finding none.

And while I did mention I’d be backing off from blogging a bit in my past posts, I never meant to back off this much. Just wanted to let you guys know I’m still alive and kicking and my passion for Halloween and working on Season of Shadows is just as strong as ever, but I’m still mending and trying to get back “above the weather” again.

I hope to be back in action soon, though. In fact, I’ve been working a little on a new project for the site regarding voice-over work. I hope to have more info on that in the coming days.

Ohhhh John, I am very sorry to hear of your rough start to this year thus far health wise. Seems to be a hung dinger for many people out there right now, me included in my own ways. What matters the most John is YOU and your HEALTH. I know how careful you are when it comes to proper nutrition and working out to stay strong. Thankfully you have those qualities about you so your more in tune with your body that most folks out here. All that matters right now, above all else, is for you to take it easy my friend, rest, stay as relaxed as you can. Just concentrate on YOU right now. Your site will always be here and your regular and new visitors aren’t going anywhere, trust me :-) I hope you feel above the weather very soon my friend, you and me both!

You have a very loyal following. We are ready to pick it up and run with your posts when you are feeling up to it. You take care of yourself. You’re much too important to your family, friends, bloggers and all those trick-or-treaters to just ignore your well being. A healthy Season of Shadows is a happy one.

  4. Monica Says:

So sorry to hear about sucky health issues. Hoping you’re feeling better soon.

  5. Paul Says:

    Hey, feel better man!

  7. trickortreat Says:

Hey, it’s great to see you post again! Even if it is just to let us know you are still breathing.
    Breathing is good.

  8. Ethan Says:

I am sorry to hear you have not felt well. I just figured you were giving us the cold shoulder… Thanks for the warm shoulder. ;)

  9. ssflipo13 Says:

John no need to apologize about not feeling well. I`m sure we are all just glad to hear from you and to hear that you are doing better.
With weather being the beginning topic, I must saw after that very strange full moon last month , things seem to be very out of wack. Normal things just don`t seem right and in my area there have been alot of auto accidents. Including my wife being in 2 of them. Whip lash from both accidents and a totaled 1997 Olds Bravada and rear end damage to a 2006 Subaru Forester.
But really good to hear from you . I hope you feel better soon.
Take care my friend I will light a candle and send healing energies your way.
    Sam

So sorry to hear that. Hope you are all back to normal soon. We will be here waiting :)

    Cheers!

John, as greedy as I can be about wanting more SOS and as addicted to it as I am, the thing I want most is for you to be above the weather- way above!! You do what you need to, take the time that you need to heal and feel better, ok? I will always check in each day to see if there are any updates and when I do I’ll be sending you all kinds of ‘feel better’ vibes and good thoughts your way!
If you ever want to talk more privately about what you are going through, I would be pleased and honored to be a listening board, a shoulder, a supporter, whatever you need. I’ve wrestled with crummy health at different points in my life and I know the feeling of just wanting to cocoon yourself and not be as outgoing as you might be until you feel more like your best self but please know that we love you and treasure what you do and who you are no matter whether you are under the weather, over it or anywhere in between. And if there is anything K or I can do to help you, anything large or small, any way we can help you feel better please don’t hesitate to ask, oky doky?

  12. Doug Says:

Glad to hear everything is alright. Hope you peak your head up over that vast ocean of weather up there soon, haha.

  13. Barry Huddleston Says:

Hang in there and get well soon. I had surgery a year and a half ago. It was my first time under the knife. Focus on getting well and remain positive.
Don’t make me send you a lame joke because I will do it. lol

  14. John Wolfe Says:

    Adsila,

Thank you. I hope all is well in your neck of the woods.

    Goldie,

So very much appreciated. Thank you. Sometimes I forget our bodies aren’t machines. Boy, I know I’ve treated mine in a very mechanical way for far too long and now it’s telling me to pay attention and start treating it like a living organism again. While I’ve never had any major vices, I have always pushed myself to certain drastic extremes (physically and mentally) and now I’m starting to see the dividends, unfortunately they’re not all that good.

I wish you all the best with what you’re going through as well. Get well soon.

    autumnforest,

Thank you so much, Autumn. I so appreciate your continued support on all fronts. Seeing your response and everyone else’s makes me feel so good right now. :)

    Monica,

Thank you. I’m feeling a little better each day.

    Paul

So great to hear from you! Likewise, I love and appreciate all the time you guys spend following my entries. Thank you.

    Damian,

    Thanks, man!

    trickortreat,

I agree, breathing is always a good thing. ;) Thanks for your support.

    Ethan,

Never the cold shoulder for you guys. Well, never on purpose anyway. Thanks for understanding.

    ssflipo13,

Thank you for your warm wishes. I am so sorry to hear about the accidents your wife was in. While whiplash is not fun, I’m very happy to hear she’s doing okay other than that. And I can absolutely get what you’re saying about things having that out of whack feeling. I’m very familiar with things feeling off and askew lately.

Thank you so much, Sam. I’ll be thinking about you, your wife and your family, too, and wishing you all the very best.

    The Frog Queen,

    Thank you!

    Camile,

I don’t consider you to be greedy at all, my friend. I’m thrilled you enjoy the site so much that it’s actually an addiction for you! I can’t tell you how grateful I am for all the support you’ve given. I love how you always take the time to interact with me and so many of the other visitors. You’re such a kind and genuine person.

And thank you so much for the offer to talk more in-depth about my issues! I appreciate that very much and will definitely keep it in mind. Likewise, you know you can always reach me through the number here on the site if you ever need anything.

On another note, though I won’t be doing the garden this year, I am going to plant the pumpkin tree seeds you sent me very soon. I’m looking forward to seeing them grow as it will be like a little piece of your garden in my backyard.

Again, I can’t thank you enough.

    Doug,

Thanks! Damn, wish I had topped out at 6′ 5″, then it would be easier to get above the weather. :)

    Barry Huddleston,

Thanks, man! I actually miss those jokes. Send ‘em my way anytime you like.

I am a little late to the party here John, But wanted to just say to take care of yourself. I know from my own health experience that life can throw a person some seriously messed up curve balls. Just remember that you have a large support community out here in cyber space. And remember to try to get the best drugs from the doctors you can. :)

  16. John Wolfe Says:

    Matt C.,

Thank you so much! It means the world to me to receive uplifting and inspirational feedback from you and everyone else. I honestly am extremely thankful for each and everyone of you who takes the time to visit and comment!

Ah, yes, the good drugs. ;)
