Vintage Halloween Montage

December 5th, 2009 by John Wolfe

Vintage Halloween images grace the screen in this video by YT user, BroadwayMusicals101. It’s a great collection of artistically spooky and whimsical works from Halloweens of yore.

There were several photos in this video that triggered memories from my youth. For example, the werewolf/beast man picture, featured at 0:50, both fascinated and haunted me when I was seven-years-old.

I initially found that image, oddly enough, at our elementary school library’s book sale. It was tucked away in a book on vampire and werewolf lore. Naturally, I snatched the book up and added it to my collection, where it was only viewed during the light of day. :D

We must have lived parallel lives. I remember as a kid finding a book in our school library about witch’s spells. I was so fascinated, I’d go after class and copy it word for word into my notebook. I later found it at a flea market sale and was thrilled! Nothing is as cool as the nostalgic stuff that frightened you so much the first time around and now just makes you remember how cool Halloween can be when you see it now. That’s probably why I’m obsessed with 1970s made for TV horror movies!

Spooky images! These were all most excellent. I have to say the one shot that sent chills down my spine was the first drawing under the Ghost section. To see something to clearly as human and yet there is no feet under it…….I’d faint over cold. Must be a trigger for me cause that was what made me pass out at the Haunted House when I was 13; it was when all of these non human ghouls started floating across the slippery ground straight to me and fast. Eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeck!!! These are wonderful findings John. Vintage art/drawings/clothing is of an interest of mine so these are fantastic treats along the way of this journey called SeasonofShadows ;-) Thank you sharing your findings with us. All My Best~*~

Same image, only I found it in a bookstore. Strange.

    autumnforest,

Isn’t that the truth about how it sticks with us and serves as a great reminder of our youth and Halloween memories! Now that’s what makes trips to the flea market completely worthwhile, when you can find something that’s such a personal treasure for you.

    Goldie,

I was wondering if this video might remind you of that great vintage Halloween book you loved as a child — especially with all the old artwork images. I didn’t know it would make you think of your traumatic haunted house experiences, but I’m glad you enjoyed it. :)

    Ethan,

Really? That’s awesome! That image is just so raw and gritty. It scared me good as a child. Though I titled this entry “Vintage Halloween Montage,” some of the images, including that one, are actually antique. The older the spooky artwork is, the creepier it always seems to be to me.
