Vintage Halloween Tuneage

February 16th, 2011 by John Wolfe

If you’ve ever popped in on webcam while I’m working on props, and assuming you hung around for a while without being bored to tears, you probably heard the following Halloween songs playing in the background. While I love building props to creepy tunes, I also dig listening to old rockabilly and campy Halloween music while getting my mache on.

Up first, we have “Dracula Hall” by The Duponts:

Next is “Igor’s Party” by Tony’s Monstrosities:

And last but not least is Jackie Morningstar’s “Rockin’ In The Graveyard”:

Oh these were wonderful John! Personally I prefer listening to you hum, whistle or actually sing the tunes in your wonderfully charming deep bass voice of yours. These indeed bring back some fond memories not to mention how much that last video had me wishing I saved my old record player from the 70′s. This may sound odd given dolby and stereo surround sound these days but I love, LOVE the scratchy sound of listening to records. I realize youth today would think of me rather odd, in more ways than one I might add, but perhaps you and your viewers can understand where I’m coming from.

Lastly, for the note my dear, you must stop thinking your webcam was boring. Far from it!!!! Just ask Camile; she and I are going through some hard core webcam withdraws so don’t you ever dare say it was boring us. I would rather watch you work over any tv or movie being shown at the time. “I’ll watch my John channel thank you very much!!” I still say you should do a couple of podcasts of story telling time of spooky ghost stories. Or, just read some of Poe’s work in that deep haunting voice of yours. You would make it impossible for me to feel at ease falling asleep on my bed at night. I would LOVE to hear you share a story time with us. LoL, listen to me, I sound like a 5 year old girl, lol….”John, will you pleaseeeeeeeeeeeeee read us a bedtime story?” LoL, will you?

I must confess to being a hardcore Heavy Metal fan. My favorite stuff is by Rob Zombie, but I also enjoy Marilyn Manson, Murdedolls, Psychocharger, and others. My personal Halloween “theme-song” would have to be RZ’s “House of 1000 Corpses” song. So, John, what’s your Halloween “theme song”?

  5. Adsila Says:

I can totally see those songs helping you get your mojo on while doing your fabulous crafts.

    ssflipo13,

My pleasure. Thanks for checking ‘em out.

    The Frog Queen,

Awesome! Thanks for listening and commenting.

    Goldie,

After my garden finished last year, in an effort to save decor for the haunt, I did bring some of the dried cornstalks into the workshop, but had to remove them after my singing caused the stalks to split in half and wilt ever further. ;) Thanks for the support about the webcam broadcasts. You know me, my attempts at humor are usually devoted to self-deprecation.

I don’t think it’s odd at all to enjoy the scratchy sounds of vinyl. Though I no longer have an 8-track player, I’ve always found its scratchiness, along with the loud click signaling a track change to be a fun sound from my youth. If I still had an 8-track player, I’d listen to it.

Maybe for a few nights, especially as we grow closer to Halloween, I’ll devote entire webcam broadcasts to reading aloud from my Edgar Allan Poe collection. I’d love to do that.

    Damian,

I don’t know that I really have a Halloween theme song, but I feel ya on the music you enjoy. Though I don’t listen to metal all that much, I do occasionally listen to Rob Zombie, especially his Hellbilly Deluxe album. I also have some White Zombie thrown in there too, but usually those tracks are on during my weight workouts and not so much during prop work.

A piece of Rob Zombie trivia: Did you know he’s a big Marx Brothers fan and the Captain Spaulding character, and I think a few others from House of 1000 Corpses were named after characters from Marx Brothers movies?

    Adsila,

Thank you so much for your kindness about my garage crafting activities.

I actually did know that. The actually make a point of explaining that in the “House” sequel, “The Devil’s Rejects”. I haven’t seen either yet, but I hear that “Rejects” is extremely well-made. Thanks for sharing!

ha! those were pretty good! thanks for sharing–esp. the vinyl. there’s just something special about those…

    Damian,

Cool! Thanks, man. I haven’t seen The Devil’s Rejects and didn’t know it was mentioned in there. I think I heard Rob talking about the whole Marx Brothers thing in an interview. I’ve been into watching the Marx Brothers movies since I was around ten-years-old, so it was awesome to hear he was a big fan of their stuff too!

    pam morris,

Thanks! I so agree with you about vinyl. :)
