Witch Hunt

August 17th, 2010 by John Wolfe

Today’s vid features scenes from the old horror film, The City of the Dead (a.k.a. Horror Hotel), backed by YT user, alacazam’s great dark ambient sounds.

If you enjoyed this piece, I highly recommend checking out alacazam’s YT channel. He has several more spooky vids, which feature his original music. In fact, I’d love to post each of them as entries, however, their embed features are disabled.

You know John, this video got me thinking about a special my Mom taped for us to watch regarding the Salem witch-hunt. No matter how many times I hear this, it still angers me to no end because in a round about way this is still happening now. Were you aware (I’m sure you already know) that the women who were labeled “witches” came from teenage girls?

    Teenage girls!!!!

With their hormones raging like a storm, they would just pick a WOMAN who had a family, a home, a life, and so forth and hysterically call them witch. I am appalled that such a childish tactic used to work back then. So much so that often times the women weren’t even questioned about it and if they were questioned and shared the truth, they were STILL condemned to die a horrible death. All because someone woke up on the wrong side of the bed that day and had it in for you because you were different. It’s insane and it’s a crying shame that 20 people had to perish because of these children and humanities need for absolute power and control.

Sorry :-) It’s something very close to my heart and only you know why. This was a good find but at times hard for me to watch, though I know they’re just actors.

I also wanted to say thank you for such open/online communication among the visitors, or regular viewers, who come to this website back and forth in comments. At times you have very inspirational people who visit here like Ethan. It amazes me that he even has time for his art work given his busy schedule, let alone leaving thoughtful comments behind. His website is full of them just like yours. I deeply appreciate your encouragement for such communications.

I LOVE where your taking this website John. I’m very proud of you.

This makes me want to watch Horror Hotel. I love that movie. I do not understand why more movies like this are not shown on and around Halloween. I wish I could find a town with an outdoor environment like the one in this film. It is constantly foggy, dark, and every tree is skeletal and creepy. My kind of town.

    Goldie,

I have heard that many of the accusations during Salem’s hysteria stemmed from a few young women or girls. I think the teenage girls were initially the ones being accused of doing something deemed to be associated with witchcraft. So, to pass the blame and remove attention from themselves, they began accusing other people of acts that were supposedly even more “horrible.”

It’s terrible to think this behavior not only occurred in our own country, but was also taking place in Europe just a few hundred years ago. It’s amazing how humankind is supposedly opposed to killing, yet, if it serves some ridiculous purpose (and I don’t mean self defense), deemed appropriate by a small group of people, then it’s quite okay to partake in slaughter… give me a freakin’ break!

No need to apologize, I totally understand. I’m passionate about that subject matter as well.

Regarding encouraging open communication and the direction of the site: Thank you so much. It’s totally my pleasure to do so. It’s a huge goal of mine to bring even more interactivity to SOS. I want you (all visitors) to feel like you’re at home when you come to the site. I want it to be a place where you can just hang out and communicate with one another in an enjoyable atmosphere. And I think the new addition I’m planning for this winter will provide an even greater option for that type of interactivity.

    Ethan,

I’ve actually never seen that movie, but after watching this clip and reading some info about it, I’m sorta interested myself now. I don’t get into modern or current horror flicks, but I certainly enjoy giving vintage stuff a go because they tend to focus more on suspense than gore. Plus, with the description you provided about the town, that’s a strong selling point for me too. I did find some other clips of Horror Hotel on YT and I was immediately impressed by the thick rolling fog I saw in a few of the scenes.

    Goldie,

    Thanks for the praise! (blush)

    John,

I am put off by most modern horror movies myself. I do like a few of them. Nothing beats the classics.

Thanks for watching and commenting. I really liked the music too. I’m not sure if alacazam has a CD out, but if he does, I’d love to play his tracks while I work on my props.
