Yard Haunt Commentary

December 5th, 2010 by John Wolfe

Made another version of the 2010 Haunt vid. This time I removed the Nox Arcana soundtrack, substituting it with some details about filming the intro as well the yard haunt display.

On another note, I’d like to congratulate Autumnforest of Phoenix, AZ; Fiend4Halloween of Hemet, CA; and Franz McLaren of Tustin, CA. They each won some of Ethan Black’s awesome Halloween artwork. Autumnforest won Lot 1, Fiend4Halloween won Lot 2, and Franz won Lot 3 in the Halloween Artwork Giveaway.

The Universe moved me for good reason; this directors commentary is superb my dear friend!!! You gave fantastic detail for us all in this cut babe. I knew there was soooooo much more behind the scene that was most interesting and I felt that your viewers/visitors would deeply appreciate a “behind the scene” take of your video. Maybe it’s just me but I always find the directors commentary fascinating. I’m the type of person who enjoys probing the depths of the mind, soul and Universe, and this was the perfect place for you to unleash more of your creativity and sharing with us all in ways that we desire. I loved both of your last videos so much John, I instantly favored them on my yt page and have seen them both more times than I will every admit to you my dear ;-)

LoL, actually John, I like the little subtle hint of you IN the video….YOU BETCHA!!! Actually directors, from time to time, will do something like that; a quick appearance in the film they are creating but nothing to recognizable. You did the exact same thing without even trying. I ADORE how the Universe moves through you sweetie. Personally I also find it most appropriate because, I say this kindly, you look really creepy in that shot. You look half human and half something else and I’m not even to sure what that something else is ;-) I love how we can only see ONE eye that resembles being human but there is some odd shape of sorts right in front of your face so it doesn’t even look like you have a jaw or a mouth. It’s a deeeeeeeelightful shot of the wickedly creative designer of all that we see before us that is SeasonofShadows.com. I think it’s great and I’m glad you didn’t cut it out, thank you.

Your use of the black screen while you continued talking was most effective John! Yes, visuals are nice and pretty BUT when the screen goes black and there are no visuals, I feel more like I’m in the presence of them talking one on one. Also I think it’s an excellent way to capture the attention of your audience, not like you need more ammo, but it had a way of sucking me in even deeper as you continued to share with us. Love the black screen………nicely done!

In case I haven’t said this yet, your Angel of Death looked marvelous. You did an excellent job in putting him together and creating him to seem so real and alive. The shroud looked perfect; loved the layers and how you would tear at the material. His wings are insane! I’m dying to have my picture taken with him!!! My little 5’2 self standing right next to him. He would, and does, look like a giant and absolutely wonderfully overwhelming my dear. Yes, before I take my last breath on this planet I will have a pic of me standing in the midst of all of your props…..maybe I can sneak you in there somewhere to ;-) LoL….perhaps peaking out from around his wings…..I’ll see what I can do ;-) Hey a girl can dream can’t she?

Ethan’s work just floors me and it’s easy to see how you can, and do, become so intensely inspired by his work. He has that effect on people just like you do. I’ve saved much of his art to my pc within the first moment of ever laying eyes on his web page. Ethan is a kind soul as well, a very warm and gentle creature. Like yourself, he’s absolutely awesome about getting back to everyone who leaves a comment behind for him. He makes you feel like a good friend though you’ve never met him a day in your life ;-) I’m always anxiously awaiting his newest creation to see just what his mind thought of this time. He’s a sweetie, as are all of your awesome regulars on here John. You truly are blessed my dear in that you have top notch quality souls around you. Your very blessed indeed my friend and the love you see pouring from us is a mirror reflection of the love and care we all feel from you and from what you’ve created on SeasonofShadows and WindoftheSoul.

Big HUGE Congratulations to the winners of Ethan’s work!!! Lucky dogs! Hands on work by Ethan himself, truly one of a kind and a fantastic give-away. I wanted to thank Ethan for helping to make that possible, thank you darling :-)

Thank you so much John for making a commentary to your one of a kind video. I highly encourage you to do this again in the near future when you make another video. Actually if I may, I now require it ;-) LoL, yes, it must be a part of all your future videos…..pleaseeeeeee ;-) Oh, I’m sorry I just have to say this and I forever will, YOUR VOICE!!! My God!!! And here I thought my Poppo could go low….he would have been most impressed by your tone but even more so of the person who you are and how important you are to me. Personally, I can hear when your “playing” with your voice in the video and I LOVE IT. Aside from the video itself, another reason why I “watch” your video over and over again is because the sound of your voice is entirely soothing for my soul. Something about it rings very deep inside of me and with that mic of yours….WoWeyWoW!! Haven’t we met each other before in some previous lifetime?

Superb video John and on every imaginable level there is!!! Thank you for your kind and very loving shout out dear. Your words and forms of expression are much to kind and I thank you greatly. Thank YOU dear friend @}—}—}—————————

Great Video John, Thanks for the inside look at your video. It’s funny to be reminded of just how much we hide of our surroundings while making these videos.

    Goldie,

I’m really glad you enjoyed it that much! I love sharing behind-the-scenes details and while it may take away from the spookiness factor of the original video a bit, it was lot of fun to do this. In fact, there were still a few more little things I wanted to share but the video wasn’t quite long enough to squeeze them in. Thanks for adding the original 2010 haunt vid and this latest version to your favorites on YT. I totally appreciate that.

When it came to my face making an unexpected appearance, at least it was creepy looking! Part of my face wasn’t showing because of the darkness and probably because I hadn’t shaved for a couple weeks at that point, so my facial hair helped blend the skin right into the night, obscuring the lower portion of my face. If I was completely clean shaven in the video, then no doubt my lower jaw, neck, etc. would have stuck out like a sore thumb. Thank goodness for sloppy grooming on my part prior to filming. :)

Glad you enjoyed the black screen portion as well. It was the easiest way for me to say a little more about the introduction without stretching it into the yard haunt portion, so I decided to elongate the black screen between the fade out of the intro and start up of the yard haunt.

Thanks for your kind words about the Angel. Speaking of having your picture taken next to him — on Halloween night there were a lot of parents having their kids stand as close to the display as possible so they could take photos. I really wish the Angel’s location had been more accessible so the kids could actually stand right next to him, allowing their parents to get a great shot of him and their trick-or-treaters together, but the yard haunt doesn’t set up that way. Plus, I would have been a little concerned about the safety of having him hovering over kids coming and going all night long. Though he was supported just fine and never budged an inch all night — he still weighed around fifty pounds (once the wings were in place) and that’s a little too much weight suspended directly over people’s heads for me to feel comfortable.

Absolutely, Ethan’s a super kind guy who’s extremely talented! His work elicits an ongoing sense of inspiration. After viewing his artwork and creations, it really provides insight and ideas of what’s possible. Something I see him bringing forth in imagery is something I’m then inspired to try to bring forth in a physical, three-dimensional way. In fact, I’m hoping to have a couple more things come to fruition this year that have been directly inspired by his artwork, both for my haunt and for Season of Shadows apparel.

Thanks, as always, Goldie, for your tremendously kind feedback!

    SKAustin,

Much appreciated, SK. I hear you about trying to hide things in our videos. I’m all about that, even for the yard haunt. It’s always my goal to try to obscure the house as much as possible so the haunt appears to be taking place in some location far removed from civilization. Thanks for watching and commenting.

Absolutely awesome work, John! The first video was wonderful trip down the rabbit hole into a Hallowe’en Wonderland. So adding commentary was a sort of road map into your world. It was fascinating to get a glimpse into the creation of such creepiness. You have definitely inspired me for my own YT account! Again, keep up the good work!

    ssflipo13,

I appreciate that, man. Thank you!

    Damian,

Cool! I never thought of those vids in that way when combined together. Glad you enjoyed it and happy to hear it gave you some additional ideas for your own vids. Thanks for watching and commenting.
