Zombie and Bigfoot
February 5th, 2010 by John WolfeIf you’ve been following many of my recent posts, it may sound like I’m getting paid to endorse Meijer stores — I swear I’m not. Call me Meijer execs and we’ll work something out (said in my best whispery voice).
It’s just that whenever I do a little digging, I come across more of their cool ad campaigns. Whoever is responsible for creating these spots has their finger on the pulse of my greatest interests: Halloween and the paranormal.
This first vid is a Halloween ad featuring zombie humor.

Up next is a Sasquatch sighting. He must be looking for beef jerky.

BF is my favorite dude! I love that! The zombie was awesome–I think he was one of the ER doctors where I used to work… Hmm… Those are so cute. Whoever is doing them is having a freakin’ lot of fun. I want that job!

autumnforest,
I kinda figured you’d like the Bigfoot piece.
Ethan,
Yeah, it’s the same in New Mexico. We don’t have Meijer either. People who live in the Midwest probably aren’t impressed by these, since they air all of the time. But, they’re a novelty to me.

These were great! I think, perhaps, the owner of those stores has a passion for Halloween. Meijer has more Halloween commercials than I’ve seen from any store around here in the big city. Sure you have your typical quick commercials during the season containing flashes of costumes and candy but rarely, if ever, can I find commercials that are this creative in the spirit of Halloween. They do have the best Halloween commercials!

It sounds like your market carries even more Halloween commercials than we see in the Albuquerque area. For example, in Halloween ’09, all we got was the typical Walmart fare and a commercial for a thrift store called Savers. The Savers piece was encouraging people to shop for gently used costumes, and that was it. Of course, I’m so busy during October that I don’t have the TV on all that much, but when I was watching, those were the only ones I saw again and again.
It’s similar to how you guys have those cool little ten or fifteen second “bumpers” wishing you a Happy Halloween on your local channels. Our stations don’t carry those here, either. Maybe that’s why I’m even more impressed by Meijer, considering the drought when it comes to Halloween related material on my local channels. You’re going to have to make a recording for me made up solely of anything Halloween airing on your channels! Just kidding.
