Zombie Scare Prank
January 28th, 2011 by John WolfeAs a little kid I was frequently the recipient of pranks being pulled by a couple of legendary pranksters–my uncle and grandpa. Once I grew old enough to turn the tables, becoming quite creative with my own pranks, they weren’t happy about spending time with me anymore.
Combining scary stuff and practical jokes is right up my alley, no wonder today’s vid grabbed my attention immediately!

Now, a great zombie prank and funny reaction aside, I hope these guys didn’t do anything to harm the grounds of the cemetery ’cause that’s definitely not cool. When Michael Fox says, “…me and Steven are covering up Jason, here in this old grave,” I’m hoping he meant “grave.” It appears that they didn’t do anything to desecrate the location and they simply laid Jason down in a depression, covering him up with leaves.

I love the slo-mo. Holy shit! I’m a real prankster. I so appreciate that.

Agreed John. Yes, I understand the prank of it but there were a couple of things said out loud that concerned me regarding respect of those who have passed on. However, for you to post it I knew it must be worth it in the end despite their teasing of the dead as well. If this video were not on your site, I would have clicked out of it when some things were mentioned but, knowing you as I do, there was a good reason you posted it.
I will say this however, I did like the honest reaction from the one getting scared. If I were ever at the OCC, for example, and something like that happened from those very very old grave sites, I’m certain I would have peed my pants while running as fast as I could to my car. Then again curiosity, as it is with me on a rather deep level, would have gotten the best of me and perhaps I would have run to a near by tree and hide so I could peak around the bend and see what just happened. I will also say this my dear friend, knowing me as YOU do, it goes without saying that you had better never….not once….pull any of your pranks on me! LoL, not even in the slightest degree my friend, don’t do it! I know you and your pranks quite well, remind me to always stay on your good side which really comes quite naturally of course
Ahhh yes, the legendary pranksters of all times. All I’ll say is this; you three men and the very intimate circle you were all in being family and all really pulled some outrageous stunts! After knowing just some of what the elders in your family pulled was like child’s play compared to the dangerously creative ability and the wonderfully wicked mind of the young one, Jr. LoL…..LoL, Ooooooooo they thought they had you since you were old enough to walk and little did their realize just how much they were teaching you a few things only to end up having you add your own fierce and dynamic creativity poured out onto their behinds!!! Fools, LoL….I say that kindly of course. (You know where I’m coming from my friend
I honestly think had it not been for the “skills” shared with you, and onto you, by your elders that you would not have the unique flare for pranks as you did and still clearly do I’m certain. Funny thing about pranks though, especially being the Jr of the family circle and your very young, is that those who dished it out in the first place sure don’t like it when it’s returned to them in one way or another. It surprises me none that you got chased around the barn a few times and had things thrown at you. Like I said…..wickedly creative imagination
LoL by the way, I’ll give you ONE guess as to which prank is my all time favorite that you pulled on Grandpa, just one. You already guessed it didn’t you?
Still makes me giggle but not quite laugh as hard as the visual of that “thing” hanging onto the “hair”..LoL…LoL….see……oh lord something must be wrong with me
Ok I’ll stop. I enjoyed this post more so for the reminder of your prank days, clearly, by far than the video itself so thank you for the giggle and now laughter. Have a delightful weekend my dear and stay warm @–}——}———————-

That was great. I love to scare the crap out of people. I had a dummy setting in my living room for the longest time. One day my friend and I took the clothes off of it and put them on him. He took its place and we waited for another of our friends to come over. She arrived and had seen the thing many times before didn’t expect a thing. When he turned and grabbed at her she turned and ran head first into the wall and nearly fell to the floor. She was fine and started laughing. We would do that kind of stuff all the time.

Great prank. Something I would have loved to pull on my wife. One time when we were checking out an old cemetery. My wife and everyone else(two other people) heard footsteps right behind my wife. So she gets freaked out and turns around and runs to the curb , right through where the sounds of the foot steps were coming from lol I laughed so hard. I wish I would have brought my vid cam out of the car and got that . Good times man ,good times.
Haven`t heard from you in a while , so your probably busy. But thanks for taking the time and sharing this gem with us. Take care and remember to scare some one.

Hhaha perfect reaction. When people run away you know they got truly terrified. He should have grabbed his ankle or something and really cause some chaos. Good find.

Oh, that’s awesome!! We do a lot of pranks around here, my only caveats are: not when your victim is on stairs, not on a ladder and not on the roof- other than that, as long as no one puts out an eye (for real..) then it’s game on! Kieran has gotten me a couple of times and I was actually too scared to scream! A good prank requires such finessed timing- I really wonder how the guy who was buried knew just the right moment to pop up? Doing that without visual cues is no small trick!!
Kieran loves pranks that include things like spiders on strings triggered/lowered by an opening door or whatnot- those slay him! I can’t wait till he gets a little older and we can start ding ones that are a little more complicated.
I pulled one on my grandmother years and years ago- remember “walkman” tape players that came with headphones? I talked my grandmother into buying me one when I was a kid and the first time I listened to it I went into my room and put fake blood just inside my ears then put the headphones on top. When I came into the room where she was I was playing the music quite loud, then I lifted off the headphones and told her “Wow, these can play really loud!” Oh, she was so mad at me!! Poor woman, she put up with so much! LOL!!
Thank you so much for the giggles, John ans thank you especially for helping me remember what fun I had with my grandmother and what a good sport she was. I mean, really, how many times can one older lady put up with finding fake rubber spiders in her unmentionables drawer planted there by a giggling, scheming little munchkin ?!? I guess I’ll find out as Kieran gets older, huh?!? LOL!!!!

autumnforest,
I thought you might enjoy this one, ’cause I know you have a great appreciation for creative practical jokes, too! Glad you liked it.
Goldie,
Yeah, I’m all for good pranks that cause no harm, but I do agree with you about some of the attitude in the vid. However, I included it because of the prank’s creativity and since Tyson’s reaction was so priceless. If these guys had taken it to a whole other level of being physically disrespectful just to achieve the same prank then I definitely would not have posted it.
And there’s no worries about me pulling my jokes on you–they work much better when done in person as opposed to being long distance. It’s just not as funny if you can’t see the person’s reaction as the practical joke is unfolding. Plus, it’s been so long since I’ve really worked out a good practical joke, I think I’m losing my touch, anyway.
I definitely took the basics I was taught and applied them in a unique way when it came to tormenting my uncle and my grandpa. Not to mention, I was relentless about doing it. I think my practical jokes taught me early lessons about persistence. Once I got on a kick of pulling pranks, I was like a dog with a bone. No wonder my grandpa especially got tired of being around me from the ages of 16 to 19.
Thanks. Hope you have a good one, too.
Damian,
Great to hear from you!
Ethan,
Lol, that’s a good one! Glad to hear she was okay. We used to do something similar during our yard haunts in years past. The porch would be setup with lots of stationary, life-size props (including me, just a few feet off the porch). I would always wear bulky clothes and a bulky mask all while standing perfectly still and letting some trick-or-treaters walk by. After lulling a few into a false sense of security, by making them think I, too, was just a dummy, I’d lunge out at a couple of stragglers making their way up the walk!
ssflipo,
Uh-oh, I hope I don’t start getting angry letters from wives who are being zombie pranked by their husbands all because of this vid!
Did you guys ever figure out what was causing the footsteps that scared your wife? Thanks for sharing that story, by the way.
I’ve been a little quiet lately, but I promise I’ll still be adding content to the Season of Shadows Blog when I can. My posting is going to be far less frequent this year as I’m trying to devote even more time to making props.
Doug,
Awesome hearing from you! I agree about that reaction. You can tell it was genuine.
Camile,
You rock! I love that! It’s interesting how I’m starting to find most home haunters and Halloween enthusiasts love to play practical jokes–maybe practical jokes are part and parcel with being creative and artistically inclined. I’ll have to broaden my “study” and see if a lot of authors, painters, musicians, sculptors, glass blowers, etc. are pranksters, too.
I never played with fake blood much outside of Halloween, but my plastic dog poop and fake vomit got a lot of miles during my childhood. Most of my jokes involved bathroom humor/pranks, either when someone was in the bathroom, or else I would bring the bathroom to them through the the magic of gross-out mail order items carefully selected from advertisements in the backs of comic books!
Yeah, I have a feeling you’re in for it with Kieran, especially considering he’s such a talented, creative little guy and because he’s had such a good practical joke teacher.

LoL Camile!!! LoL, oh my heavens your poor grandma. First off I like how you “asked” if we remember those walkmans
Honey many of us still have at least one buried somewhere deep in our closets. Us “old-schoolers” have to stay together and I remember what a hit they were in the 80′s! It was a far cry from having to carry a boom box on your shoulder to listen to the music; of course I’m reminded of the adorable John Cusack and his film “Say Anything” holding up his large boom box
Boy oh boy how times have changed and in such dramatic ways too.
Secondly, I adored the light hearted prank you pulled on your grandma. I can honestly say I’ve never thought of such a thing. Lastly I absolutely agree with you regarding how a “good prank requires such finessed timing.” Boy does it ever and I think any true good comedian would tell you just how crucial that timing is. Of course I can’t help but to think of my recent obsession with Harold Lloyd and some of the other silent film comedians. It’s astounding how much MORE can be communicated to us, the viewers, and in complete silence. You seem to feel as though your living the moment as well. Lloyd talks often about the importance of timing so I couldn’t agree with you more. I hope you and K are doing awesome and that your new year is off to a wonderful start

That was a funny prank but like you said, I hope it was done without ruining the cemetery grounds.

Thanks for watching and commenting.

ha! that was pretty funny…I’m sure that it was terribly frightening for that guy–seriously. but like you, I hope they didn’t desecrate anything.

pam morris,
No doubt Tyson had some nightmares from that one. Reminds me of my great-grandpa and a prank he and some buddies pulled on a guy while they were all working in a graveyard. A co-worker hid out in an empty casket and then jumped out at the unsuspecting recipient of the prank. The poor guy was so scared, he tore down fences with the sheer force of his momentum as he ran to get away from the scene!
Thanks for watching and commenting. Always great to hear from you!
